FAQ
Is
Belmont a Church of Christ, as it reads on the stone work
above the chapel?
Belmont Church was birthed some 95 years ago as Belmont Avenue
Church of Christ. Our historic roots lie with the Church of
Christ. In the 1970's, when Belmont embraced the Spiritual
Renewal that swept across denominational lines, we drop our
affiliation with any denomination and changed our name to
Belmont Church.
What
does it mean to be nondenominational?
Belmont Church believes strongly in unity among Christian
churches, Christian leadership, and Christian believers. In
order to open the doors and tear down the walls, we have chosen
to be known by one
name-Christian. The leadership of Belmont
walks in unity with Christian leadership throughout this city
and country, and our membership is open to all Christian denominations.
Is
your pastor from a Church of Christ background?
You mean our pastors! No. Actually the team of pastors are
from a diverse cross-section of denominations. We have pastors
with Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, Assembly of God, Episcopalian,
and Charismatic backgrounds. And, yes, two among this team of pastors
are from a Church of Christ background.
Why
does Belmont have such a large staff?
To service the ministry. Belmont is more than the four walls,
it is our heart to reach out into the neighborhoods and nations
with the gospel. In order to do that we have to provide the
necessary tools and the means to educate and mentor our members
in an environment that is conducive for all generations. Whether
it is Active Seniors for Christ, Cell Life, College and Young
Adults, Women's and Men's, Youth, Children, Nursery, World
and Local Outreach; each of these ministries require a dedicated
support staff in order to effectively meet the call before
us.
How
many members does Belmont have?
We have approximately 2,000 people who attend over the course
of a weekend.
How
can I learn more about Belmont Church when I visit one of
your services?
You can learn more about Belmont by visiting
our Welcome Desk in the foyer of your Worship
Center. Our greeter will be happy to answer any specific questions
about 'when to go where', and other queries you may have.
We have a brochure that introduces you to the staff pastors.
We will give you a complementary Welcome to Belmont Church
video that provides a quick overview of where we've come from
and where we're going. At the end of that video, we recommend
a number of other excellent churches in our city.
How do you become a member of Belmont Church?
For full membership details click
here.
How
do I know when classes are cancelled because of weather?
If Metro/Davidson County Schools are out or are dismissed
early, classes will not meet.
Where
are the restrooms?
Restrooms are located on the lower level at the base of the
stairs. Another set is in the annex, a hallway that extends
perpendicular to the sanctuary. There are also restrooms on
the third floor, near the children's classrooms.
Equipping
Do
you have Sunday School and adult classes?
Yes and no. We have Sunday School for
infants through high school seniors. We also
offer college and young adult classes. Our adult classes occur
on Wednesday evenings. You can find information about these
programs by visiting the demographic specific web pages.

Worship & Arts
What's
the process for being on a worship team?
Since
we have so many musicians in our community, we get asked this
question a lot. Those who will serve on worship teams at Belmont's
regular assemblies need to have strong sightreading skills
and be able to find their part by ear. Usually the team can
only run each song once in a short rehearsal the day of the
worship service, so this is essential. If this sounds like
you, here's what to do.
Step
1: Pray and ask
if this is something the Lord is calling you to. Then fill
out an orange musicians info form, which you can find either
in the Worship Center lobby, or at Asaph's Chambers building,
which houses the Worship and Arts Department. You should
either mail this form back to the church or leave it with
the front desk, marked for Worship and Arts. Be sure to
include your email address, if applicable, so that you can
be kept up to date about department happenings.
Step
2: Attend one of our regular
Artists' Gatherings and make yourself known
to the staff. As you can imagine, our worship leaders generally
call people they either already know or have met and talked
to, when choosing people for their teams. So let us get
to know you. You should not feel at all shy about being
proactive here. We want to meet you.
Step
3: Attend placement auditions or jam sessions the next time they are held. They will be advertised at
least semi-annually in the bulletin. In these auditions
we are not casting for anything specific, just trying to
get a feel for who you are and your skill level and experience.
Step
4: Keep an open mindmany times it will take a
while to get worked into the list of people who are being
called for worship teams. Stay open to serving in other
ways until a slot becomes available.
What about choir?
Our Worship Choir sings once per month in assemblies as a regular part of the worship team, and less frequently we will sing special music for holidays and to highlight teachings. You have the option of being in the Worship Choir (the first week of the month only) and/or the performing or Celebration Choir (singing specials and anthems). We rehearse Wednesday nights from 6:30 - 8 PM in Asaph's Chamber. If you are interested in participating in either choir, contact Worship and Arts.
Can
I do a "special" piece in the worship service? I
have written a song
If
you have a song to submit, please get a CD and lyric sheet
to the Worship & Arts Pastor. She oversees all specials done in the
services.
What
if I have an overall idea or vision I want to tell someone?
Again,
call the Worship & Arts Office or send an email with your idea or submission.
Can
I get the lyrics and/or charts to the songs we sing in the
assemblies?
Unfortunately
our licensing does not allow us to share those with the public.
However we are happy to help you find a published version
by sharing info on the songs. Please call the Worship & Arts Assistant to inquire.
I'm
a cell worship leader and I need some pointers. Can someone
work with me?
Yes, in the past a worship leader was specifically given the task of helping cell worship leaders with material and tips to leading in small groups. Now, this information comes through the Worship & Arts department. Again, the Worship & Arts Assistant is the person to call. You can contact Worship & Arts at wa@belmont.org
I
would like to book one of the Belmont worship leaders for
an event. How do I go about this?
If
you know them, feel free to contact them directly. If you
need some recommendations, please call Worship & Arts and
we will be happy to give you referrals.
Belmont's
worship style is unique. Can you give me some information
on the biblical foundations for this at Belmont? Including
prophetic ministry, singing in the Spirit, Songs of the Lord,
etc.
Yes,
you should find some good materials on these topics in the
section called Resources. In addition, you can email Worship & Arts with specific questions.
In the future, we hope to have some position papers online
that detail a Scriptural basis for worship, as well as how
to explore these topics yourself. Check back!
How
can I volunteer in the media area of the worship services?
Great
question. We are always happy to find qualified people with
servant's hearts to run our sound and PowerPoint. Contact
us if you're interested in sound and lighting at MediaVolunteers@belmont.org
or 256-2124, ext. 235. To volunteer for our rotating team
of PowerPoint operators, please contact Lynn Noe.
Is
the music recorded each weekend? How do I get a copy?
Our
weekly worship CD's are currently not in production. We do
have a large inventory available of worship recordings produced
before September 2003 for a suggested donation of $4.
Are
my children welcome to stay with me in the worship center
for the whole service?
Our
exuberant worship style actually lends itself well to children's
participation. Children are certainly
welcome and encouraged to attend. We advise
parents, however, to remain aware of your children and insure
that their behavior does not distract others. Very rarely
an usher or dancer from the front may ask you to quiet your
child. Please understand that this is out of reverence for
the Word being preached, or to respect those who are trying
to enter into the presence of the Lord. Remember, our Children's
ministries love visitors and do a wonderful job teaching our
little ones each week. You are encouraged to bring your child
to their age level class for a trial run. Click
here for Children's Class information.
