Special
Interest Community Groups
What are your interests?
Are you a nurse? A teacher? Passionate for dance? Interested
in studying a foreign language? Maybe your hobby is gardening
or woodworking. Perhaps you're an avid cyclist or a political
activist. If you're like most of us today, your life is fulltoo
full to pursue all the things you'd like to invest in.
If
you find it difficult to lend your time and energy to developing
your special interests and participating in community group life,
maybe you should consider doing both at the same time.
The
reasons comunity group leaders give
for pulling together special interest cellsor support
and equipping groups are as diverse as the leaders themselves.
Whether time is in short supply, or interest is in high demand,
special interest cells provide common ground, structure and
purpose, as well as the joys of community and the benefits
of personal development.
Special
interest community groups provide a great vehicle to
reach out to your neighbors and coworkers. Below are a few
examples of some of Belmont's special interest groups. Maybe
they'll spark your own ideas. If you'd like to start a special
interest community group, email the Community Life Office.
The
C. S. Lewis group , led by Peggy Haase, meets
at 3 PM on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month at the downtown
Nashville Library, Provence Café, and occasionally in
homes. We love booksreading, discussing, and writing books!
Our interest in British authors bonded us together initially,
starting with JRR Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. After reading these
authors, we traveled to Oxford University to walk in their
creative shoes, while also enjoying the English countryside
and each other's company. On returning, we explored the artistic
mind as we read The Mind of the Maker by Dorothy Sayers.
We are currently reading God in the Dock, a collection
of essays by C. S. Lewis, and look forward to pursuing more
great works together this year. Visitors and new members are
welcome to our group. If you love books, authors, and the creative
arts, give us a call.
