I'm New...

What can I expect when I attend Belmont Church?
We know that going to church for the first time or attending a new church can be a little intimidating, especially if you aren’t sure what to expect. We would hate for questions about what to expect to get in the way of your getting the most from your visit with us!

What should I wear?
We tend to be very casual in our dress. Some will have on suits and dresses; others, jeans or shorts. Wear what is comfortable for you!

How will I know where to go?
Come in the front of the building by entering through the large set of columns which face 16th Avenue. You’ll probably see our people standing and talking outdoors on the plaza and inside the front doors. In the lobby you’ll find a Welcome Center with printed announcement sheets to let you know what is happening at Belmont. We don’t print a bulletin with an “order of service” so the ushers at the entrance to the auditorium will have these announcements sheets as well. Just come on in and sit where you like! The best seats are down front but the balcony also offers a great view. By the way, restrooms are located on the basement level near the elevator and stairs. Another set is in the annex, a hallway that extends perpendicular to the sanctuary - to the left of the art gallery. There are also restrooms on the third floor, near the elevators and children's classrooms.

What will the service be like?
Some intentional communication will be showing on the screen just before the service begins. Our band will take the stage, have a greeting or opening prayer, and then do a few songs that reflect God’s goodness and grace in our lives. Feel free to sing along as the words are projected on the screen or simply listen and let the words affirm God’s love for you. People from the congregation might stand, clap or move with the music. Feel free to join in if you want, or ……just sit and enjoy! We sometimes wave beautiful silk flags as a way of celebrating God’s love for us. You’ll find that Belmont is a very joyful place! At a specific point during that block of music, an announcement will be made and the children will be released to go to their classes. If you have children, you will want to check in with the Welcome Center in the lobby for directions. (see below) Also, later in the singing we will take communion together. A pastor will guide us on how to do this from the front, so just follow directions. After the singing someone will come to the stage and share the intentional communications for the day. We might also have someone lead in special prayers for whatever is happening that week in our church or in the world- or for those who are sick in the congregation. It varies each week.
Then, an offering will be taken. Please feel no obligation to put anything in the offering. As our guest, we want you to relax and simply enjoy the service. The offering is for members and those who are committed to Belmont as the primary place they receive their spiritual training and nourishment.
After that, the senior pastor (usually) will give the sermon. It is just a talk, designed around a relevant topic using biblical references with practical application. Notes for it are projected on the screen and also sometimes found in your announcement sheet. The talk might incorporate a creative element such as drama or multi-media. You’ll enjoy our senior pastor- he is funny, self-effacing, and often brings current events into the message.
A prayer will follow the sermon, and an opportunity will be given for anyone to come forward to receive prayer for themselves or their concerns. Feel free to either come up for prayer or not, as you like. The band might possibly return for a final song. The service will run for about one and a half hours.

Will I need a Bible?
Yes....we encourage believers of all maturities to reference all teaching to the Word of God. As a backup, we always try to have the scripture references be projected on the screen or provided in the notes.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, or be singled out in any way?
Nope. We will do our best to never put you on the spot, single you out, or embarrass you in any way. The only thing you might be asked to do is raise your hand so we can give you a visitor’s packet of information.

I have kids. Will there be something at your church for them?
You bet! We have a safe, fun-packed and purposeful program designed for kids of all ages during all services. Nursery/toddler care is provided throughout each service, preschool-youth classes also meet when the children are dismissed, about halfway through each service. Youth meet across the street in the building on Grand Ave. called SOZO’S. Ask at the Welcome Desk for ages and directions.  Visit our Youth or Children's Ministry page for more information.

I still have a few questions. Who can I ask?
Call our front desk (615-256-2123) anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays or if you are here on a weekend, just stop by the Welcome Center near the front lobby doors. We want to make sure you have a great experience while you are with us!
